This is a handcrafted handle by Robert Quinn from Maple Burl.  The burl is a result of either a disease or injury which has caused the grain to grow in an unusual and irregular manner. This Maple Burl comes from the hard maple, also known as rock or sugar maple.  The hard Maple is a cold-climate tree, and grows abundantly in the northeastern United States, Middle Atlantic States, and throughout the Great Lakes region, as well as in areas of eastern Canada.  The heartwood is reddish in color, varying from light to dark reddish-brown. The growth rings produce a very fine brown line throughout the wood. The grain of hard maple is tight with a fine texture.  Maple burl is a popular choice for furniture, cabinets, countertops and musical instruments. This piece of Maple burl was combined with a beautiful Neo-Resin to create this stunning piece.
